Palais des Festivals: This is where it all happens: when the Cannes Film Festival is in town, paparazzi jostle and crowd under the palm trees, popping flashbulbs at the glittering movie stars swanning up the broad, red-carpeted stairs to view a colleague's latest creation ot, at last, to find out who has won the Palme d'Or (golden palm). Something of a shrine, these stairs are a popular spot for posing for souvenir snapshots. At the foot of the Palais and set into the surrounding pavement, the allée des Etoiles (stars' alley) enshrines some 300 autographed imprints of film stars' hands - Depardieu, Streep, and Stallone, among others.
