We have just returned from a wonderful stay at Isabelle's Mona Lisa apartment. We had a wonderful time! The apartment is so centrally located that we walked all over Paris. It is also right by the Metro and the Bus #69 stop, both of which are a fun experience to ride. This is a very touristy part of town, with many people, we always felt safe. My two teenagers often walked by themselves to go get crepes from their favorite cafe.

The apartment is on the top floor. It does have a very small elevator. You can fit maybe two people without luggage. I used a fold-up wheel chair to get around Paris. We could fit me and the wheel chair (collapsed) in the elevator.

The apartment was clean and had all the comforts of home. We made drinks and put them in the fridge so that they were cold for our daily adventures. The bed was very comfortable after a long day of sight seeing. At night we sat in our little living room discussing our day and making plans for the next day.

Besides being directly across from the Louvre we were a block away from the Seine, which you could see a little from the window. We were able to watch part of the Bastille Day parade right from our window. It was like we had front row seats!

Isabelle made renting the apartment very easy and hassle free. After our long flight, we were able to go with our instructions and get directly into the apartment. If we are ever able to go on a trip like this, again, I will definately email Isabelle to see if she has an apartment available.

1bed/1bath apartment in the 4th Arrondissement, Paris

When

April 07, 2 weeks

Location

The apartment was perfectly located in the Marais area on rue des Blancs-Manteaux - we loved the location and couldn't think of a better place to stay - central to all but very quiet street and not too touristy.

Nearby Amenities

We were a five minute walk away from closest metro Rambuteau or Hotel De ville, lots of excellent speciality food shops, grocery stores and restaurants within close walking distance.

The House/Apartment

The building was typical of many in the area - two apartments per floor, four flights of stairs, very quiet secure building. The apartment was on the third floor without a lift. Very tastefully decorated with exposed beams and stone walls. One large bedroom, small bathroom, sofa, which converted to single bed and double bed that pulled out from wall.

Garden

No outside area other than both living rooms windows that opened to floor so we could get a good view out.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Apartment was very clean and tastefully decorated - a couple of the pieces of furniture had seen better days though - plenty of room for three people.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

Beds very comfortable and plenty of bedding. Bathroom fine though a little cramped, lots of storage room though.

Kitchen

Very well stocked kitchen - small cooker, small dishwasher, bar fridge and front loading washing machine - certainly big enough to cook for three people.

Problems or Bonuses

The hallway and stairs were probably a little bit more run down than I excepted and most days very smelly - combination of cooking smells, smoke and cats! The apartment though was like an oasis - bedroom as gorgeous with silk lined walls and ceiling. The living area did seem a little smaller than the pictures but fine for three.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Isabelle was very easy to deal with - all emails were answered promptly and every question addressed. Small hiccup with plans on arrival no one to meet us and when we contacted, she informed us key was in letterbox as per email, which we never received. Paid a small deposit and balance on arrival - apartment €1000 per week in April.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would certainly use same agency again she has a great selection of apartments in great areas.

Things to do in this area

What we loved most was the neighbourhood feel to the surrounding streets yet you are only blocks from such well known sights as Notre Dame, Hotel de Ville, Pompidou Center, Picasso Museum, Musée Carnavalet, Place des Vosges, Victor Hugo Museum, the Bastille and Hotel de Sully.

Lots of of restaurants, and bars - plus very close to metro and Les Halles station for RER connection.

Isabelle is a delight to deal with and was honest with me about the cancellation policy and not at all unpleasant when I told her I had decided against her places on that basis. Her flats are charming and worth a look and state whether they have A/C

My family, 2 adulsts with a 11 years old kid, plan to go to Paris on April 2007 for 8 nights. We are thinking about renting an aparment. We love to stroll on the open market and perfer tostay in an elegant area, center location and close to lots of attractions. Any suggestions? I could not decide which area is better, St Germain, Rue Cler or Rue Mouffetard. Any advise is appreciated.

St Germain is very upscale, and central esp if not too far from the Seine. Some sections of the 7th are very nice but not Rue Cler. While not seedy or anything, Rue Cler is just a market street with cafes and shops. Nothing real fancy.

I just went the web site http://www.apartment-in-france.com/. I love the Isabelle's Princess Apartment in the St Germain area in Saint-Germain des prés. It is about 1000 euro a week. I was in other web site before and most are about 1400-1600 euro a week. I am wondering is Isabelle's Princess Apartment central enough. Is there any open market close by or good bakery. I love market and bakery. Thank you.

The Princess and the Mona Lisa apartments look great and both are close to the center of things. I bookmarked them for our next trip to Paris. We paid 1183 Euros for 7 nights at Hotel Henri IV (and loved the hotel and the location) but these apartments are a bargain. Please post a review on this forum if you choose either ot them.

I contacted the web site and the owner Isabelle is very friendly. But the problem is Princess apartments is booked for end of March 2007 to April 2007 already. It is so popular!
Also I could not book this much ahead because I won't get an airline ticket 6 month ahead. Without the date set, I don't want to risk the money. Normally they charge 50% to 100% rent for cancellation fee.
Any other good idea?

We had a wonderful 4 night stay at Isabelle's 'Lancelot' apartment in The Marias, Paris. The apartment is in a great central location - we walked everywhere! The apartment was very comfortable for our family of four and was equiped with everything we needed. Isabelle was very welcoming and had many useful tips for our stay in Paris.

We've just returned from our third trip to Paris and both of us agree, this was definetely the best accomodations we've had. Isabelle's "Esmeralda" was clean, cheery and in a wonderful part of town - pretty, cobblestone streets, lots of restaurants, stores, cafes, etc etc. The bed was comfortable and we had just about everything we needed, like a coffee maker, an iron, even a hair dryer. We were able to keep food and beverages in the refrigerator so breakfast was always relaxed. Our windows opened into a pretty courtyard. This apartment IS on the fourth floor, so be prepared to climb some stairs! The Esmeralda is close to the Metro station (and a great fromagerie!) and walking distance from the Lourve, Isle St Louis and lots more. Overall, we were very pleased and Isabelle was sweet and helpful. I've already advised my brother to contact her about her other apartment in Italy! We are so glad we didn't get a hotel room. We almost felt like we were Parisians, at least for our time there.Oh, one piece of advice: take the shuttle from the airport! We should have listened to Isabelle! The money we saved taking the train was not worth it!

We had a wonderful week at Isabelle's Marie Antoinette apartment by the Eiffel Tower. We really enjoyed staying in an apartment rather than a hotel. It was so comfortable, and quickly became our home away from home. It was very well equipped, and we really didn't lack anything we needed. It was close to shops for food, and just a 2 minute walk to the metro and the RER, where we could get to anywhere we wanted to go. We loved being close to the Eiffel Tower- every night for ten minutes on the hour, it twinkles with hundreds of little lights. When we were home, we'd go to the little park across the road to watch.
Isabelle was excellent to deal with- always quick to reply by e-mail or phone to any questions. Her English is very good. There is a book in the apartment where guests leave their suggestions, and where Isabelle has left lots of useful information (like an English speaking taxi company). Her Mother was living in this building, and she was a very nice lady as well. I think this little apartment was a big factor in making our holiday so memorable.

Wow ! The Marie Antoinette is a cosy and private bijou apartment for two incurable romantics, almost on top of the Eiffel Tower and in a great part of town. It's certainly NOT one of those cold, impersonal hotels (thank God !).

We booked direct via Isabelle's website ([--]), after being recommended this apartment by Australian friends and we were not disappointed.

The inclusions were many, the apartment spotless and good value for Paris.

The ability to self cater (for those days when you are just too knackered to sample the local restaurants) was a bonus. The small kitchenette was well appointed for it's size.

There are heaps of local services just around the corner (train station, cosy cafe's, restaurants, boulangeries, and some well stocked supermarches).

Isabelle the owner was a delight to meet and was genuinely interested in making sure ensured we were happy with our stay.

Thanks Isabelle !

1bed/1bath apartment, Saint Germain des Pres, Paris

When

April 23 - 30, 2006, 7 nights

Location

Our one bedroom apartment was a lovely apartment located in a fully renovated 18th century building. The furnishings were a combination of antique and contemporary. The living environment was elegant. We loved the large windows that opened to a quiet, private courtyard. It was located down a lovely narrow (very typical Parisian) side street and was in a quiet area (during the day). Across the apartment building was an excellent restaurant called "Henry's" and a couple of bars and other restaurants around the corner.

Nearby Amenities

There was a fresh market around the street and a bakery we visited each morning for chocolate croissants (yum!). We walked to the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Louve and other sites. There was excellent shopping right around the corner as several restaurants.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was in excellent condition and very nice. The apartment was very clean.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The bathroom was beautiful with shower and washbasin.

Kitchen

Kitchen was well equipped with the latest appliances. Since this was our first time to Paris, we didn't cook, but enjoyed the excellent restaurants nearby. The apartment had washer/dryer combination, dishwasher, coffee maker. Kitchen was very clean.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would definitely stay at this apartment again!

I have read as many posts about apartments that I could find here, plus the recommendations from Paris Notes and posted a question about the differences between the agencies. Travelnutty answered that one and has rented apartments all over Europe. That post said they preferred to rent driectly from an owner. I then went to various rental sites trying to compare what was on offer. Vacation in Paris had some nice units but I ended up renting from Isabelle at apartment-in-france. We have not travelled yet but I will post my experience when I return. So far, she has been most responsive and helpful.

I would do as the last poster suggested, read about the units carefully. One I saw, don't remember which site, as I went to so many, was on r. de le Huchette, on the 1st floor, facing the street. I know this street is extremely busy at all hours from either garbage and delivery trucks in the early am and revelers late at night. So ask questions before you rent. Some agencies require that you have 'holiday insurance' that covers your liability for the unit. Some owners won't meet you at certain times/days. Just do your research carefully and you should get a winner.

Paris: Isabelle's Apartments Beaubourg: "great apartment in a great location"

My experience with this hotel took place in:
June, 2006
We had a wonderful 5 days in one of Isabelle's apartment, the Pompadour. The night prior we stayed in a typically tiny Paris hotel room near the Eiffel Tower and it was a welcome relief to open the door to the Pompadour. Excellent space, nice decor and a great view of the Seine and Tower (if you lent out the window!). Isabelle offered an excellent pre and post service via email.

It was unusually hot in Paris and given the apartment was not airconditioned the first night was a little warm. Without notice from us a portable airconditioner turned up the next day!

We will stay in an apartment over a hotel in Paris if we hopefully get the opportunity to go back again - we loved Paris as well!

Paris: D'Artagnan Apartment: "D'Artagnan apartment in Paris - great!"
Aug 21, 2006  pencil01, Sydney

We have been to Paris before but always stayed in hotels in 5th and 6th arrondisments. This time, going for 10 days, we decided to try an apartment in the Marais (4th) - fantastic area with lively street life all day long. Great location within 3 minutes walk of 2 Metro stations and easy 10 minutes walk of the river and Notre Dame. Across the road were restaurants and cafes while food shops, supermarket, laundromat, internet cafe and more restaurants within 100 metres. The only drawback for some people might be the 5 storey stair climb - no lift.
This quiet apartment was small but very comfortable for 2-3 people - more would be a bit tight. It was in excellent condition and everything that we needed was supplied - phone, TV, radio, linen, cooking equipment, cutlery, glasses galore. The young lady who manages this apartment and about 6 more is very efficient, well-organised, helpful and speaks english. She answered our email queries promptly, arranged the lease immediately and met us in the apartment to explain its workings and local highlights. We will have no hesitation returning the the D'Artagnan apartment nor dealing again with Isabelle at www.apartment-in-france.com

My husband and I had one of the most tremendous holidays in Paris, staying at Isabelle's apartment: the Mona Lisa, in front of the Louvre. The location was perfect. The apartment was perfect - well maintained and comfortable. We couldn't have asked for a better accommodation in Paris and we absolutely will be going back to Isabelle's apartments in Paris and have already recommended it to several people. I can't imagine staying any place else in Paris. Plus we love Isabelle who is so helpful and accommodating. We were thrilled with our experience.

Hello.

I just got back from my firtst trip to Paris. It was wonderful. We decided, after looking at advice here, to take an apartment instead of staying in hotels. It was a great idea. After doing lots of research of all kinds of websites, we settled on:
http://www.apartment-in-france.com . I'm posting about that website here now, as I could find nothing about it when I looked before deciding to book.
These are apartments are owned and rented by a French woman named Isabelle, who spent quite a bit of time in the US, so knows what Americans like and need.
We stayed in the "Lancelot" which was near Notre Dame, Picasso Museum, Hotel Deville, the Seine, Saint Chapelle and the Louve. It was in a fantastic location, and we coulnd't have been happier with the price or the accommodations. I thouroughly recommend her apartments in Paris. We liked it so much we may stay in one of her apartments next year in Italy!
I loved my trip to Paris and will post more about the triip later. Thanks to all who post here....it really helped me out!

We rented the Lancelot 2 weeks ago and it is fabulous! Isabelle has 4 or 5 other apartments in Paris, and you can see pictures online. She was great, met us at the apartment, answered questions and the apartment was beautiful with lots of extras.

We stayed for a fortnight in May 2006, having booked on the internet. It was exactly as shown in the pics on the net so there were no surprises. It is a superb place. ideally located. Around the Pompidou is like being in a large village, with excellent food shops and restaurants, and the Metro and buses are nearby. Despite that, it is very quiet. The apartment was perfect; clean, comfortable and cozy. It is the perfect spot from which to take your Paris holiday. If we visit Paris again, we would definitely stay there again. In addition Isabelle is a lovely and honest person to deal with.

Hi,
My husband and I are planning a trip to Paris next year and this time we are planning to rent an apartment in or near the Marais district. I found a lot of studio and 1 bedroom apartments online which seemed really nice and the rent per week was quite reasonable. You might want to check those out as an option to hotels. Here are a few sites I found:

you could look into this site where I almost booked a flat but was put off by the cancellation terms given how far out I was booking - however, it could be worth consideration closer to your dates if you are interested as Isabelle, the agent and owner of a number of the apartments, is very helpful and a delight to deal with

I see you posted this back in January 2006 - just wondering - did you decide to stay there or have you been already? I only ask because it is a studio that is currently on my radar.

Hi Maeryn03,
Yes, I did stay in the Esmeralda studio apartment for 10 days. I really enjoyed it. There are plenty of places to shop and eat just on that street. If you like gelato, go to Amorino just up the street, it's very good.
It was very nice to have the washer (no dryer) and a kitchen. The location was perfect, just a couple blocks from Rue de Rivoli. There is no elevator, so you have to walk up about 4 flights of stairs. There was always plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The shower is small and one person can fit in the bathroom at a time. Previous occupants had left plenty of shampoo and body wash, but I had brought my own. The toilet is separate from the bathroom, I liked that. There's a curtained closet, but no dresser to store your undies, etc. You have a view of the courtyard and some sun does come into the studio. The studio looks just like it does in the pictures. I would stay in this studio again.
Isabelle was a wonderful host and made sure I had everything I needed. She's very easy to work with and trustworthy. This was the first time I stayed in an apartment in Paris and I was very happy with my choice. I didn't use the metro much because of the great location.
Have a good trip to Paris!
Alisa

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond - and especially for giving me all that information. It made my decision to take it that much easier. But, unlucky for me, by the time I replied to the agent that I would take the Esmeraldo Studio - it was gone. Ahhh c'est la vie. Perhaps I will be able to get it on another visit.

Paris: Isabelle's Apartments Beaubourg: "Isabelle's Piaf apt"
New  Sep 22, 2006:  A TripAdvisor Member, evergreen park, il

My experience with this property took place in:
August, 2006
I just returned from spending 11 days at Isabelle's Piaf apt in the Marais district. The apt was just as shown on the website, fine for 1 or 2 persons. I was travelling alone, but my daughter joined me for a weekend and slept in the loft bed with no problem. The apt was nicely furnished, kitchen with stove and microwave, fridge, cutlery, pots/pans,etc. Bath was good, with a small shower.

Isabelle was very helpful, communicating with me via email before I arrived, met me at the apt and answered questions and responded to emails during my stay. I see that another reviewer was put off by the courtyard. That wasnt a problem for me. It was sunny in the morning when I woke up, and anyway I wasnt there during the day. There are rubbish bins, but tightly closed and convenient to drop off your trash from the night before.

I had been leery of the stairs (I'm 70, after all) , but no problem. In fact, after climbing them daily I felt a lot more fit and I may even have lost a pound or 2.

The apt is close to 2 metro stops and there are tons of cafes, restaurants, patisseries, etc all around. I would definitely stay at one of Isabelle's apts again.

I heartily agree with the apartment rental plan. I have become so spoiled by doing that. You can cook, shop for food, have more room to stretch out, and best of all feel like a native with your own address!
Here are a few apartments I have stayed in.
Isabelle is very friendly and helpful and her apartments are here:

We stayed at the Louvre apartment (Mona Lisa) and the location was great for access to all of the sights.
