At number 13 Rue Mazarie is what could be the oldest café in Paris. It was for centuries the place where people went to hear the latest news and gossip and particularly busy the years that preceded the revolution. There is a plaque on the wall with famous names of politicians and writers, who were clients in the café among them Benjamin Franklin, Rosbespierre, Danton and Bonaparte. Another famous client was Oscar Wilde who will go there with poet Verlaine.
The Procope is now a restaurant and its décor has been preserved in eighteen century style.
