The Grand Palais was build for the 1900 World Exhibition, is a huge building of stone, glass and steel. The north end, nearest the Champs Elysée used to be a museum devoted to one-man shows. Some of the exhibitions included Picasso, Léger, Chagalle, Miro, and Cezanne which attracted enormous crowds. It also provided space for big commercial exhibitions such as the motor show and the boat show.

The grand palais was suddenly closed down for renovations in the late 80’s. The salon were told that the roof was falling in. Fortunately it just re-opened it doors in 2005, and it still attracting huge crowds.
