As we entered Place de la Concorde we can admired the Marly horses. These superb statues flank and are almost as if they were guarding the entrance of the Champs elysées. They are from the eighteen century, work of Guillaume Coustou, and originally come from the Chateau de Marly, one of Louis XVI’s houses destroyed in the revolution. The horses were brought to the Champs Elysées in 1795.

The original marble horses have been replaced by exact, pollution-proof replicas; the originals can be found in the Louvre.
