This museum was formerly a railway station, the “Gare d’Orsay” and has an RER station at the entrance, which opened in 1900. On arrival we will see a pleasantly paved courtyard, overhung by a big chestnut tree. The Seine and its boats are just across the road.

The museum aims to show us French art of all sorts, including Architecture, photography and furniture, of the period 1848 to 1914, in association with its political and historical background. There are lectures, debates and concerts and film projections to achieve this object, but the best things to see here is the art itself especially  the paintings, here we can find a collection of impressionist art such as Dégas, Monet, and Renoir as well as post-impressionist paintings such as Gauguin, Bernard and Serusier to mention a few.

On the top floor we can look down at the great hall below, under its arched glass roof, we can almost feel its still a station and enjoy a clear view of Paris from its Terrace.
