You will find many places to eat on rue Mouffetard and its side streets. This area is especially good for students, in part because of the number of small shops selling baguettes, panini and crepes.

Avoid rue de la Huchette and the labyrinth of narrow streets in the 5e across the Seine from Notre Dame. The ethnic restaurants between rue St-Jacques, boulevard St-Germain and Boulevard St-Michel attract mainly foreign tourists, who are unaware that some people refer to rue de la Huchette and nearby streets such as rue St-Séverin and rue de la Harpe as Ruelle de la Bactérie (Bacteria Alley) because of all the meat and seafood ripening in front windows. To add insult to injury, many of the poor souls who eat here are under the impression that this little maze is the celebrated Latin Quarter!
