37- Gallery Ileana Sonnabend opened in February 1963 with an exhibition by Robert Rauschenberg, his “combine-paintings” as he called them made up of painting and sculpture, Impress French critiques and collectors.  This show was followed by “pop art in America” which included works by john Chamberlain, Oldenburg Jim Rosenquist, Wesselman and Andy Warhol with his twenty Marilyns. This was the first time Warhol work was shown in Paris. During the 1960s the Sonnabend gallery became one of the most important display centres for young American artists in Paris.
