  Walk in Paris!

Starting at the 12th-century church of St-Germain-des-prés, walk down the rue Bonaparte and turn right immediately after the corner garden into the rue de l'Abbaye. Turn left into the rue de Furstenberg.

Here you cross the lovely square once inhabited by painter Delacroix, before coming to the rue Jacob.

Follow rue Jacob to the left. This street has numerous antiques and interior decoration shops.

At the rue Bonaparte, follow this fascinating shopping street to the right.

On your left you will pass the grand-entrance to the Beaux-Arts.

Having reached the Seine, walk along the Quai Malaquais, which leads directly into the Quai Voltaire and the Quai Anatole-France.

From here there is a good view of the Louvre across the Seine. The quais themselves are lined with the upscale antiques shops and the odd restaurants. At 19 Quai Malaquais stands a literary landmark; Anatole France was born here, and it was previously the home of George Sand, who was deeply involved with Alfred de Musset.

Cross rue du Bac.

Pass the courtyard of the Caisse des Dépôts, dominated by a sculpture by Dubuffet, before coming to the almighty Musée d'Orsay.

Circle round to the left, following the chic rue de Bellechasse to the rue de l'Université. Turn left.

The route continues past more antiques shops and galleries.

At the rue des Saints-Pères, turn right to rejoin the boulevard St-Germain, with the church along to the left.
